11 PhD scholarships in Political Ecology

The European Network for Political Ecology (ENTITLE) offers 11
generously-funded three-year PhD scholarships available to
candidates from all over the world. ENTITLE is an EU-funded
Initial Training Network whose aim is to promote European research
and advanced training on the field of political ecology, including:
the study of the commons; social metabolism and environmental
conflicts; movements; disasters; ecological democracy; and
environmental justice. Successful applicants will be hosted in one
of the participating institutes of the network in Barcelona,
Coimbra, Manchester, Lund, Berlin, Athens, Istanbul or

New issue of GHG Measurement & Management now available

The latest issue of Greenhouse Gas Measurement & Management (GHGMM) is now available. A collaboration between the Greenhouse Gas Management Institute and international publishing house Taylor & Francis, GHGMM is a scholarly forum for reliable peer-reviewed research and information on a broad range of issues relating to the measurement, accounting, and management of GHG emissions.

The latest issue of GHGMM can be accessed online here. The journal is available free of charge to GHGMI Premium Members.

ICCG News – Green Growth Knowledge Platform

International Center for Climate Governance

The Green Growth Knowledge Platform (GGKP) – a joint effort of the Global Green Growth Institute (GGGI), the Organization for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD), the United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP), and World Bank (WB) – is a new platform aimed at enhancing and expanding efforts to address major knowledge gaps in green growth theory and practice, and to help countries design and implement policies to move towards a green economy.

Green growth means:
fostering economic growth and development, while ensuring that natural assets continue to provide the resources and environmental services on which our well-being relies. GGKP focuses on the synergies and tradeoffs between the environmental and economic pillars of sustainable development, aiming at being a catalyst of knowledge-generating initiatives and programs within a wide range of research agencies, experts, researchers and pratictioners.

ISC 2012: 2nd Call for Contributions

Coming back to our first announcement in October 2011, we would like to
again draw your attention to the International Sustainability Conference
2012 organised by the University of Applied Sciences Northwestern
Switzerland, School of Business, in association with the University of
Basel, Program Sustainability Research.

The conference will be held from Wednesday 29 to Friday 31 August 2012
at the University of Basel, Switzerland. The central theme of the
conference is “Strategies for Sustainability: Institutional and
Organisational Challenges”.

The organisation committee encourages scientists, managers as well as
decision makers from various disciplines to attend the ISC 2012 and
present the outcomes of their research and/or case studies in line with

Winter School “Limits to Growth Revisited” (November 24 to December 1, 2012)

Various developments in different societies call for new matching modes of thinking that promise a secure future for everyone. What is smart or good growth? Why are so many findings of the report still unresolved? Will there be solutions?

In order to give fresh impetus to the debate, the Volkswagen Foundation,
who funded “Limits to Growth”, aims to foster new thinking and the
development of different models in all areas related to the “Limits to
Growth” study at the crossroads of natural and social sciences.

The Winter School “Limits to Growth Revisited” (November 24 to December
1, 2012) is directed specifically at highly talented young scholars from
related disciplines.

Deadline: April 30, 2012

The Volkswagen Foundation intends to grant this selected group of post
docs and PhD students the opportunity to develop new hypotheses, ideas,
and questions. These results will be presented at an international
conference on “Limits to Growth” in Hanover held by the Volkswagen
Foundation and Dennis Meadows together with high-ranking international
experts from various disciplines on the “Limits to Growth” topics. The
conference will take place in Hanover (Germany) on Wednesday, 28 and
